Institute 2018 Wraps Up!

On May 22 through 25 and again on May 29 through June 1 2018, 115 adult educators from across North Carolina attended Institute 2018 What Works: Teaching Adults with Learning Differences and Unique Learning Needs.  Through networking with colleagues, large group sessions and small group breakouts, participants came away with an expanded toolkit of strategies to assist their students with learning differences.

Large group sessions examined a variety of topics including fostering creativity and innovative thinking in the adult learner, exploring the relationship between emotion and cognition, WIOA implementation and using Skype in the classroom.  Participants chose from a wide range of small group breakout sessions that dove into topics such as assistive technologies, building a classroom website, mindful teaching and learning, Smartboards and revitalizing professional development workshops.

At the close of Institute, learners said, "I appreciated receiving several resources and strategies to bring back to my instructors as they work with LD students" and "I enjoyed everything and look forward to implementing the new ideas when I return."
