2018-2019 Face to Face Workshop - STAR

Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) provides instructors with the research-based knowledge and skills to assess and teach intermediate readers (levels 4 to 8.9) in alphabetic, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

In order to register for this workshop you should:

1. Be able to attend 2 full day face to face workshops (8:30 AM to 4 PM). At the community college, you registered to attend.

2. Commit to completing at least 25 hours of online instruction and homework between the face-to-face meetings. This works out to about 1 to 2 hours per week added to your already busy schedule. How are your time management skills?

3. Realize that online learning demands more self-discipline than face-to-face learning.

4. Have availability to practice giving assessments and using teaching techniques with students.

5. Have regular access to a reliable computer with a strong Internet connection.

6. Be a self-starter who does not need reminders to complete ongoing assignments.

7. Be the type of person who finishes what they start!
