NCCCS Professional Development

Since 1988, ABSPD has been a professional development provider for North Carolina Community College System's (NCCCS) College and Career Readiness instructors.  In that time we have helped thousands of instructors improve their teaching skills to better reach and teach their students.

In 2012, ABSPD partnered with NCCCS to develop a series of credentials to help instructors teach adult basic education and adult secondary education students.  ABSPD also provides STAR training, part of a national initiative to improve reading instruction in adult basic education.

Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) provides instructors with the research-based knowledge and skills to assess and teach intermediate readers (levels 4 to 8.9) in alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Participants in this 6 day workshop also learn how to monitor instruction and create classroom routines.  More information about STAR can be found Here.

The full schedule of all trainings offered by North Carolina Community College System College and Career Readiness can be found here.
