Each summer more than one hundred Adult Basic Skills educators, literacy colleagues, and graduate students attend the Institutes at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. The Institute program focuses on planning and presenting effective professional development to enhance instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics for adult learners.

Institute is an investment in the future of adult education! Institute provides professional development, which affects adult educators at all levels: administrators, directors, trainers, instructors, literacy volunteers, and graduate students. You may choose to take Institute as a workshop or as a graduate level course where you can earn three semester hours of graduate credit. Plan now to attend the next Institute so YOU can become a catalyst for more effective Adult Basic Skills, College and Career Readiness education.

Many professional development opportunities in North Carolina are funded by the College and Career Readiness Department of the North Carolina Community College System Office, in cooperation with the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University.
